In Residential Treatment, you couldn’t get me to read a Self-Help Book, even if it was the last book on earth!
My entire day schedule while in resi was already filled with groups on Self-helpy, Love Yourself till you’re blue in the face, yada yada yada bull crap! By the time the day was over, all I wanted to do was watch the Kardashians and make myself feel better about life!
When my mom brought me this book, I opened it with the intentions of reading just enough to convince her I read it. I ended up finishing it in 3 days. THIS BOOK is BADASS.
First of all You Are a Badass like the easiest read ever! Jen Sincero’s tone is captivating, funny, and incredibly RAW. Her discussions are written as if she was sitting right next to you! Like she’s giving her BFF some real cutthroat advice. She speaks in HARD TRUTHS, and in eating disorder treatment, the no bullshit approach is the ONLY approach that works.
Jen Sincero’s primary message in You Are a Badass has been written and rewritten a thousand times. It is a universal theory of energy, frequency, and vibration. It is recognizing your core beliefs and changing them with positive affirmations. It is he belief that our thoughts become our reality.
The earliest, and probably initial scripture of this universal theory is The Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita was , states “you can achieve anything which you aspire to achieve.” The Gita goes even further to state that “you can become whatever you aspire to become”.
Jen Sincero, like many other motivational writers, supports this theory with examples and guidelines.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from You Are a Badass:
“One of the best things you can do to improve the world is to improve yourself.”
“Energy + belief + action is the recipe for being awesome.”
You Are a Badass is essential in Eating Disorder Recovery. It will help you to redirect your thoughts that trigger behaviors. It will help you question your ED vices. Most importantly, it will help you recognize those core beliefs that most likely caused your ED to begin with. Think back to when you were a child. Were there any circumstances or people in your life who made you feel insecure about your body? Or made you feel out of control? If you are unsure, this book will help you recognize and change those beliefs. Reach out after reading You Are a Badass ! I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments!
